For this collection, Kar was inspired by Carhartt WIP’s Detroit heritage and Carhartt Inc.’s early history in producing its own cars in 1911. “KARHARTT” combines Kar’s design sensibility with Carhartt WIP archive staples.
As a young man, Kar skipped school to help his father fix cars and was constantly surrounded by the classic mechanic’s uniform. The collection takes one of Kar’s fondest memories, reworking the Michigan Coat and Single Knee Pant to the capsule’s green palette. The capsule is complete with a functioning mini-wrench keychan branded with L’Art de l’Automobile. The capsule’s green color tone acts as a nod to the forests of Lebanon, where Kar grew up. The specific hue is also found on Ferves Rangers, a rare Italian off-road vehicle from the ’60s and ’70s.
The collection is rounded out with two graphic tees, a slew of accessories and gadgets, including a Nalgene water bottle and two caps. Each item features the exclusive “KARHARTT” motif and branding.
Carhartt WIP x L’Art de l’Automobile collab is set to release in the U.S. on February 27 in-store at Carhartt WIP Los Angeles and online at Carhartt-WIP from 11 a.m. EST. The collection is available in Europe starting February 25 at select retailers and on Carhartt-WIP EU.
