Awake NY Will Donate Proceeds of Its New ASICS GEL-KAYANO Trainer 21 to the Virgil Abloh™️ “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund
Launching exclusively at UNKNWN alongside a capsule with NEON16.
Angelo Baque‘s Awake NY has been active on the collaborations front over the course of 2021, and one partner that appears to be popping up more frequently is ASICS. Together, both parties have launched an ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14 “Rebirth of Cool” colorway and featured Angelo Baque as the head of the Japanese sportswear label’s “The ASICS Collective” collaborations initiative, and now they’re introducing an exclusive GEL-KAYANO Trainer 21 capsule. In light of the tragic passing of cultural icon Virgil Abloh, the proceeds from this release will be donated to the late designer’s Virgil Abloh™️ “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund and Angiosarcoma Awareness, Inc. – an org that focuses on research and raising awareness about angiosarcoma. This scholarship fund focuses on providing opportunities for Black creatives.
Two colorways are involved in this two-way range. The first comes styled with cream and gray overlays across the upper while notes of brown pop up on the toe box and mid-foot netting as well as the borders of the tiger stripes. Teal and orange hits also appear on the heels for a touch of vibrance. Its release sibling channels a signature Miami-inspired color palette by bearing teal overlays across the forefoot and heels. Heightened parts of the heels usher in small hits of orange and yellow while the toe boxes and mid-foot carry the exact same brown accents.
The Awake NY x ASICS GEL-KAYANO Trainer 21 is dropping on December 2 alongside a capsule collection with NEON16 — a Miami-based artist incubator helmed by record producer Tainy — exclusively via UNKNWN. A wider release is going down on Awake NY’s website on December 4 where 20% of the profits will also benefit Virgil’s aforementioned fund.
