Amazon Studios Is Reportedly Close to Making 'Mass Effect' Into a TV Show
The company is “nearing a deal” to develop a series based on the sci-fi video game franchise.
Amazon Studios is reportedly “nearing a deal to develop a series” based on Mass Effect, the best-selling Electronic Arts video game franchise, according to Deadline.
Electronic Arts and BioWare have not officially confirmed a series; however, the companies have previously indicated that a TV project will eventually go into production. In June, Mac Walters, the project director of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, told Business Insider that it is “not a matter of if, but when” the franchise makes its way to Hollywood.
“You will see us continuing to invest in fantasy genres of all kinds,” Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke told Deadline about the company’s decision to produce a Mass Effect series. “We have a genre-focused team on the ground in Studios who work tirelessly with our creative partners on those slates, and you can look forward to more.”
Mass Effect, which was created by Casey Hudson, Drew Karpyshyn and Preston Watamaniuk, launched in 2007 from developers BioWare and Electronic Arts. The sci-fi video game franchise follows Systems Alliance Navy vet Commander Shepard as he leads the battle against an age-old machine race that attempts to take over the Milky Way. The franchise encompasses two additional installments as well as several spinoff mobile games and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
