Shanghai Fashion Week SS22 Attendees Deliver Casual Fits and Lessons in Layering
Highlighting the oversized street-leaning aesthetic.

As Shanghai Fashion Week wraps up its Spring/Summer 2022 season, HYPEBEAST has rounded up the week’s street style looks from showgoers alike. With COVID-19, Shanghai Fashion Week has faced challenges, going digital last year and experiencing a slew of delays throughout the Spring. This year’s Shanghai Fashion Week saw over 100 unique shows with many taking place at SHFW’s central hub at Xintiandi.
This season saw major Chinese design talents return home with Masha Ma, who has been living in Paris for many years, kicking off the week with her brand, MASHAMA. PRONOUNCE, who has hosted many shoes at London Fashion Week also returned to Shanghai to preview the latest collection.
Showgoers stole the show with their casual leaning silhouettes and layering. While minimalism took over the fashion aesthetic on the streets, some dazzled in eclectic patterns highlighted on bold accessories and bright apparel pieces. Standout styles include the baggy bowling shirt in bright emerald green, a denim-on-denim ensemble courtesy of the classic Botter silhouette and strong oversized tailoring that became a lesson in layering.
Leather outerwear made an appearance with oversized blazers and cropped bombers as the main silhouettes of choice. Effortless chic was the theme of this year’s street style looks, as many focused on the comfort-leaning aesthetic throughout the week. SHFW showgoers paired luxury brands with streetwear staples further proving the blend between both industries in fashion. Prada’s Bolo Tie was paired with a casual grey blazer while a Stone Island bucket hat proved to be the perfect accessory to a Matthew Williams x Nike sleevless tunic.
