Audi Pumps More Power Into the R8 V10 Performance RWD Coupé and Spyder
With 570 HP and 550 Nm of torque on tap.
The Audi R8 has been with us since 2006, and over the past 15 years it has appeared in many variants, the most exciting of which is the R8 V10 Performance RWD, which today has been given an update for the 2022 model year.
As Sebastian Grams, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH, says, “The Audi R8 V10 RWD really struck a chord with customers right from the start with its rear-wheel-drive derived from the R8 LMS racecar and its unfiltered dynamics.” To add to this experience, Audi has pumped an extra 30 HP and 10 Nm of torque into the car’s naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 FSI engine, resulting in a total output of 570 HP and 550 Nm.
To help the RWD car cope in all kinds of conditions, the mechanical limited-slip differential has been fettled with to make sure that the right amount of power is given to a particular wheel, helping it manage its power in the rain for example — helpful, considering the coupé weighs just 1,590kg and the spyder weighing 1,695kg.
Sport Mode now works in tandem with the ESC to deliver manageable drifts, which will be handled by a set of extra-light 19” and 20” aluminum cast wheels that are backed by 18” steel brakes or optional 19” high-performance ceramic brakes. Further separating this iteration from other R8 iterations are the matte black air intakes, front splitter and rear air outlet grid, as well as set of ovular tail pipes, while inside you’ll find a 12.3” screen as standard.
In Germany, the base price for the coupé is €149,000 EUR (approximately $172,000 USD), while the spyder starts at €162,000 EUR (approximately $187,000 USD). Take a closer look at both above, and find out more at your nearest Audi dealership.
