Japanese contemporary illustrator, Hajime Sorayama has teamed up with Mizuno to re-envision its iconic WAVE PROPHECY sneaker.

Dubbed WAVE PROPHECY SORAYAMA, the shoe is entirely designed by the artist, best known for his Sexy Robot series. Sorayama‘s work often revolves around the pursuit of beauty in the human body and machinery. By combining both elements, the artist has created an unmistakable mark in the world of contemporary art and design. Similar to his artworks, the shoe carries a hyperrealistic silhouette that transports wearers to a different time.

The WAVE PROPHECY SORAYAMA is dressed in a matte-silver upper and designed to be formfitting. The heel, along with the cushioning system is constructed with a smooth, eye-catching silver finish, highlighting the most prominent part of the collaboration.

The sole unit design, INFINITY WAVE, combines the structural technology of Mizuno with Sorayama’s creative vision. Sorayama wanted to ensure that the sneaker resembled “floating in the air” and is expected to be a more flexible and lighter-weight version of the traditional sole. Fans can find the SORAYAMA logo subtly placed at the bottom of the outsole.

The WAVE PROPHECY SORAYAMA will be available for early release at 2G Tokyo and 2G Osaka on January 30. The shoe comes available at Dover Street Market Ginza and KITH Tokyo on February 6. The shoe is priced at ¥38,500 JPY (approximately $370 USD).

In case you missed it, Nike’s Sashiko celebration continues with Blazer Mid’77 “Barely Rose” and “Navy Blue”.
