Graphic designer Kashiwa Sato‘s impressive resume includes projects like UNIQLO’s global branding and the creative direction of Rakuten; his latest effort is a little more intimate. In partnership with G-SHOCK, Sato has imagined his own “DWE-5600KS” watch, elevated by transforming accents.

Launching just ahead of the delayed “Kashiwa Sato Exhibition,” this unique G-SHOCK timepiece remixes the familiar DWE-5600 with a variety of thoughtful touches. These include a face that features the artist’s name, graphic detailing inspired by Sato’s Lines series that began in 2017 and even a “K” that appears when the backlight is activated.

Its most notable feature is tucked inside special packaging, which also pays homage to Lines. Therein, one can find two wholly different sets of bands and bezels, allowing the wearer to customize this watch with up two 27 different variations. All crafted from G-SHOCK’s translucent plastic “skeleton” textile, they’re identical in shape but the different colors allow for an entirely transformative design.

G-SHOCK’s Japanese site on March 5 for ¥25,000 JPY (approximately $240 USD).

Most recently, G-SHOCK introduced its Full Metal 5000 in a warm reddish tone.
