Trippie Redd and Busta Rhymes Channel Old School R&B in "I Got You"
Interpolating Busta and Mariah Carey’s early ’00s classic, “I Know What You Want.”
Trippie Redd has enlisted Busta Rhymes for his newest single “I Got You,” set to appear on his forthcoming album Pegasus.
Produced by Wheezy, “I Got You” hears Redd and Busta channel the sonic structures of early 2000s R&B. The single is greatly modernized by Redd’s auto-tuned singing, but quickly takes listeners back to the classic age when he interpolates Busta and Mariah Carey’s hit 2002 collab “I Know What You Want” in the chorus. The cut also arrives with an accompanying music video that sees the two rappers track down Busta’s old flame, and the woman just so happens to be the mother of Redd’s love interest.
“I Got You” joins Redd’s previous releases “Dreamer,” “The Don & The Boss” with Vybz Kartel and “Excitement” with PARTYNEXTDOOR on Pegasus.
