Pau Gasol Names Newborn After Kobe Bryant's Daughter
Vanessa Bryant is the godmother.
Ex-Laker Pau Gasol and his wife, Catherine McDonnell, took to Instagram recently to share the news of their newborn’s arrival — a baby girl named after Kobe Bryant‘s late daughter Gianna.
The photo shows his wife holding her newborn with the caption “Our little one has finally arrived!! The delivery went really well and we couldn’t be happier!! Elisabet Gianna Gasol, a very meaningful name for our super beautiful daughter!! #girldad.” Gasol played next to Bryant over two championship wins and seven seasons. The Spanish athlete had a close relationship with the NBA legend, who he’s been consistently honoring since the fatal helicopter accident from seven months ago. Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s wife and Gianna’s mother, confirmed Gasol’s newborn as her goddaughter, responding with her own post, “my goddaughter is here!!!! Congratulations @paugasol @catmcdonnell7 Love you 3 so much! So touched by your request to honor my Gigi. Can’t wait to hold Elisabet Gianna Gasol.”
