AFEW Gives Saucony's Shadow 5000 a "Time & Space" Makeover Inspired by Albert Einstein
Drawing from the physicists’ Theory of Relativity.

AFEW and Saucony are no strangers to collaboration, having previously delivered popular takes on the Shadow Master 5000 and Grid SD, and now the duo are back with the Shadow 5000 “Time & Space.”
For its latest collaborative pair, AFEW has taken inspiration from one of the greatest minds to ever live: Albert Einstein. The physicists’ Theory of Relativity has influenced plenty of elements throughout the Shadow 5000, combining otherworldly touches such as glow-in-the-dark soles with more traditional components that bring us back down to earth, such as tweed.
A galactic shade of green-blue colors the suede toe box and has been used on the shoe’s sock liner, too. In contrast, you will also find black fabric tongues that are finished with contrasting trims — the right shoe opting for blush pink, and the left coming in stark white. These colors have been used to further highlight their respective shoes’ laces, eyelets, and premium leather heel caps.
Other Einstein-indebted elements include “Time” and “Space” lace locks, A=few² formula-scribbled mid and outsoles, as well as hourglass and square space branding on the heels. More formula notes have been scrawled onto the insoles, and a final touch of A=feʷ branding can be found on the heel.
Rounding out the shoes is a rubberized tongue badge noting the collaborators’ names alongside the diagram showing how the Theory of Relativity works.
As you can see, AFEW left no stone unturned when it came to the details on its Shadow 5000 “Time & Space.” The collaborative pair of Sauconys are available via an online raffle and in-store at AFEW in Düsseldorf, Germany on a first-come, first-serve basis, releasing September 19. Pairs will be limited and will cost €149.95 EUR (approx. $178 USD).
