Edgar Plans is a visual artist currently based in Gijón, Spain who is known for his colorful, oil on canvas paintings featuring childlike characters set against abstract backdrops. Plans channels the primitive style and expressionist elements found in the works of Jean Michel-Basquiat while gleaning intuitive scrawling from the graffiti-heavy ouerve of Keith Haring. The artist sets himself apart from these two pop art masters by incorporating his recognizable, Mickey Mouse-eared figures across his vivid compositions.

Plans is currently displaying over 60 artworks at the WAREHOUSE gallery in Hong Kong as part of an exhibition titled “Optical Heroes” curated by Matt Chung. Making up a majority of those pieces is a selection of drawings portraying his “Animal Heroes” in various expressions and playful scenarios. The fledgling Hong Kong space merges arts and retail as it currently sells an assemblage of high fashion eyewear alongside Plans’ works. The space spans 700 square feet and will begin to regularly showcase new works by international artists.

In regards to the works, Chung expressed to HYPEBEAST that “among the collection, three of them are the artist’s biggest canvas to-date with “Animal Heroes” characters in glasses, as well as eyewear history and vision screening scattered in this masterpiece, powerfully capturing the attention of visitors entering the space.”

Elsewhere in art, the Brooklyn Museum recently announced its reopening date alongside a major KAWS exhibition.
