Building a steady fan base over the years with his over the top music videos, Oliver Tree, known for his JNCO jeans, bowl cut and expressive face, stands as an artist somewhere between a meme and creative polymath.
Pushing through a series of delays, Tree has now released his album, Ugly is Beautiful. Serving as a compilation of tracks that have been released throughout Tree’s quick rising career, the project serves as something of a greatest hits collection.
Defined as alt-pop-rock, the 14-track album mainly traverses West Coast hip-hop and indie rock to create a varied sound that matches the artist’s bold look. Despite the playful element to many songs, Ugly is Beautiful is largely focused on “finding the things in ourselves that we see as flaws and learning to love those things.”
