'Forza Motorsport' Is Coming to the Xbox Series X With 4K Capabilities and 60FPS Gameplay
It however will not be called ‘Forza Motorsport 8.’
Microsoft revealed an announcement trailer for the next title in the mainline Forza Motorsport series coming to Xbox Series X. The racing title, developed by Turn 1 Studios, is still in “early development” according to Microsoft. As such, the title does not yet have a release window and despite being the eighth entry in the series at this point, it will not be called Forza Motorsport 8. It’s currently unclear if this name change means that the dev team will continue to make another numbered Forza Motorsport sequel.
The upcoming game will offer some huge technical leaps, such as 4K capabilities and 60 frames-per-second gameplay alongside the addition of more realistic ray-tracing lighting. This allows light to bounce off of cars and reflect off each other, as well as provide more detailed lighting and shadows.
“As the Forza franchise has expanded, so has the importance of player-to-player connection and the immersion delivered through state-of-the-art realism,” creative director Dan Greenawalt explained in a blog post. “The Xbox Series X, with its focus on speed and power, provides us the opportunity to connect our players to the Forza universe, and to one another, like never before.”
Microsoft showcases its latest racing title following Sony’s reveal of Gran Turismo 7 during its unveiling of the PlayStation 5, which also aims to deliver a more realistic take in its racing simulator.
Forza Motorsport is set to be available on Xbox Series X and Windows 10, however, no Xbox One version was mentioned and there is currently no release date. The title will also be available through Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service.
