Pristine BMW 3.0 CSL "Batmobile" Commands Six Figures on Bring a Trailer
Just one of 169 first-series examples built.
A one-of-169 first-series BMW 3.0 CSL 3.5 five-speed “Batmobile” conversion has been listed on Bring a Trailer, and is already commanding six figures.
The rare German classic sportscar from 1972 is presented in pristine condition and comes equipped with a number of period-correct updates. For example, the BMW has been fitted with a more powerful 3.5-liter M30 inline-six with twin Weber carburetors in place for its original engine block (which does come included with the sale of the car), and it also sports a full “Batmobile” aerodynamic conversion kit.
This “Batmobile” styling kit adds a rear wing and roof spoiler, along with rubber air guides on the front fenders and a front air dam. Elsewhere, there is a later-style steel trunk panel with a plastic lip and a set of factory 14-inch Alpina alloy wheels. The car has also been given a paint job, finished in black with tri-color stripes in place of the original “Golf Yellow” exterior.
Inside you’ll find front and back bucket seats trimmed in black leatherette with corduroy inserts, a set of custom, vintage-esque silver-and-black Coco mats, a wood dash surround, and classic details such as a large thin steering wheel and retro dials.
The 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL 3.5L five-speed “Batmobile” is currently listed on Bring a Trailer and is already asking for well over $100,000 USD. The listing runs out at 2 p.m. EST.
