A New ‘Lord of the Rings’ Mobile Game Is Coming
Featuring original characters from the trilogy.

Fans of Lord of the Rings can expect a new mobile game based on the series, as the Chinese game developer NetEase has confirmed that it has secured a deal with Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment to produce a new title.
In a statement, NetEase announced that the officially licensed strategy game will be called The Lord of the Rings: Rise to War, that it will be set in the fictional world of Arda, and that it will include characters and locations from the original trilogy of books by J.R.R. Tolkien.
A spokesperson for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment said, “This adaptation will unlock new opportunities for players to explore the iconic settings and characters of Middle Earth while utilizing their strategic skills in battle.”
NetEase has solid experience in the fantasy sphere: the developer is also behind Fantasy Westward Journey, one of the most popular mobile games of all time that has grossed over $2bn USD in revenue to date.
Warner Bros. gained the licence to publish Lord of the Rings-themed games in 2010, and it has since published titles including Aragorn’s Quest and Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor.
As of yet, it is unconfirmed whether likenesses from the Lord of the Rings’ film adaptation will be used in the game.
