UNDERCOVER Reunites With Dr. Martens for a New Take on the 1460 Boot
The corduroy pair is the latest in a series of collaborations for 2020.
Following previous collaborations with the likes of Yohji Yamamoto, Raf Simons, BEAMS, and BAPE, UNDERCOVER‘s Jun Takahashi is the latest designer to take part in the Dr. Martens “1460 Remastered” series.
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Dr. Martens’ 1460 boot, the brand has invited a series of designers and labels to rework the style, adding their own aesthetic elements to the signature shape. The brand is releasing one edition every month throughout 2020; UNDERCOVER launches this month as the fifth installment in the series, and was chosen for its “spirit of nonconformity, disruption and attitude.”
Takahashi has reimagined the 1460 boots in minimal black corduroy. Each pair is embroidered with an ‘S’ and ‘N’ on the vamp, which stands for “Spiritual Noise,” a recurring UNDERCOVER slogan. The inner of the boots is finished with another UNDERCOVER signature: a newly-created floral print, which is also featured on the packaging. Every pair is made in England in Dr. Martens’ original Northamptonshire factory.
This isn’t the first time the two brands have worked together: the two released a pair of patent leather lace-ups in late 2019. In 2016, UNDERCOVER’s collaboration with Supreme included a selection of DMs printed with “anarchy” symbols.
The collection drops on Saturday 23 May, and will be available at the Dr. Martens web store and selected retail partners like SSENSE.
