Jacob & Co. Introduces its Opera 'Scarface' Watch

To celebrate Brian De Palma’s 1983 American crime drama film Scarface, Jacob & Co. teamed up with Universal Pictures to expand its Opera collection with a new timepiece. The original Opera from the timepiece purveyor was the first high watchmaking tourbillon with a two-comb, two-cylinder music box.

Honoring the influential movie, the Opera Scarface has been designed with an integrated music box that plays the “Bolivia” theme. Pushing the pusher at 10 o’clock plays the 120-note music box and causes the entire dial to rotate 120 degrees under the domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal case. During this movement, the time display remains in the correct position thanks to a patented differential system.

Decoration on the dial comes in the form of an 18K gold, black-lacquered piano that has keys that move while “Bolivia” plays and a matching Scarface logo plate.

Available in 8K rose gold and black DLC titanium versions limited to 88 pieces, the watch is powered by a Jacob & Co. signature triple-axis tourbillon movement comprised of 658 individual parts. Accenting the movement is an 18K rose gold “The World is Yours” globe, inspired by the decoration found in the entrance hall of Tony Montana’s Miami mansion.

Wound by an 18K rose gold violin-shaped crank, the movement features a tourbillon that turns in 24 seconds on one axis, eight seconds on the second and 72 seconds on the third. Incredibly, the movement music box utilize separate power reserves – the watch can run 42 hours, while the music box can play three times before needing to be wound again.
