Celine Taps André Butzer for Artful Sketches on Mid Lace Up Sneakers
Adding expressive embellishments to the luxe silhouette.
Celine has tapped André Butzer for an artfully rendered iteration of its Blank Mid Lace Up Sneaker. After unveiling its ’90s-inspired mid-tops from back in April, Celine has offered a sleeker alternative to its eclectic footwear lineup.
Butzer is a Berlin-based artist who has been known for his semi-abstract paintings that often take shape in the form of cartoon-like characters and conceptual objects. The quirky sketch etched over the side of this shoe is one such example. Accented against a sleek black canvas foundation, the drawing has been made into a fleece patch, outlined with contrasting white embroidery. It features an anthropomorphic figure with a rounded body and an ambivalent expression. The top of the shoe is stamped with gold “Celine” branding, complemented by tonal laces, metal eyelets and smooth calfskin panels. As a final note, “CELINE” is subtly debossed over the leather panel at the heel counter, while a cream-colored toecap and midsole round up the silhouette’s design.
Celine’s André Butzer-commissioned Mid Lace Up Sneakers are currently available at 24s for $590 USD.
