Tom Misch & Yussef Dayes Connect for New "Kyiv" Live Recording Session
Another collaboration with talented bassist Rocco Palladino.
Just a month out from the release of their collaborative, What Kinda Music LP, out April 24 via Beyond The Groove/Blue Note, Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes continue to release live video recordings of their jam sessions that serve as an intimate glimpse into their undeniable creative chemistry. After the “What Kinda Music” visual set the tone through a jarringly hectic sprint through an autumn forest, the duo recorded a live jam session for “Lift Off” that showcased Dayes’ talent as one of the UK’s premiere drummers alongside bassist Rocco Palladino. It was an addicting jazz and funk infused instrumental track with some serious replay value.
Today Misch and Dayes return for “Kyiv,” the second installment of their recording sessions in Kyiv, Ukraine recorded in a smooth 16mm, nearly one-take shot by director Douglas Bernardt. As with “Lift Off,” dancers also accompany the group, followed by a warm spotlight. The camera keeps an especially close focus on Misch’s guitar this go around. What Kinda Music will feature 12 tracks with guest appearances by Kaidi Akinnibi and Freddie Gibbs.
