Tom Misch and Yussef Dayes have announced their forthcoming collaborative album What Kinda Music, along with the lead single and its accompanying music video.

Set to release on April 24 via Blue Note, the 12-track LP promises to be one of the most unique and original projects of its kind to date as the two artists combine their very different disciplines into one fluid album. Misch and Dayes have also enlisted Freddie Gibbs for the track “Nightrider,” along with Rocco Palladino for “Lift Off” and Kaidi Akinnibi for “Storm Before the Calm.”

In a statement released by the pair, Misch revealed that he first saw Dayes on the drums at a school talent show when he was 9 years old. However, the two didn’t enter the studio until Summer 2018 after they officially met at a party for Misch’s Geography release. “Yussef comes from a more experimental background, and he has a lot of loose, crazy ideas. I know how to write a catchy melody, but with interesting chords and I have a good understanding of popular song forms, so I think I streamlined those ideas and made them accessible,” Misch said.

Dayes adds, “Both our parents who’d never met each other before, are now best friends as a result of this – they now see each other more than we do! I’d like to think, in some small way, that this album has a similar impact for people too – everything feels so divided these days, it would be nice for people to hear the record and hear two very different musicians coming together and realize it doesn’t have to be that way.”

Elsewhere in music, Three 6 Mafia have announced a reunion tour.
