After Nike Sportswear recently revealed Air Force 1 and Blazer “Sketch” makeups in white, the Air Force 1 Low is serving as a canvas for a “Sketch” style once again — this time in a “Black/White” colorway. Retaining the sumptuous scrawled Swoosh stylings of its predecessors but flipping its hues for a bold, dark look, this Air Force 1 is a clever acknowledgement of the process behind a world famous Nike product.

Uppers are constructed of black tumbled leather and equipped with a potent plethora of white printed details. The most noticeable of these is the lateral side’s Swoosh, which starts on the forefoot, extends through the quarter and comes to rest directly in front of the heel tab. This partially filled, slightly altered placement nods to the imperfect nature of design sketches. Various handwritten messages are dispersed around the upper as well: the lateral quarter spells out “Nike Air Force 1,” while “Variable Width Lacing System” appears on the medial side under the collar and “1982” — the year the AF1 first released — is drawn on the medial mudguard.

Although there’s no large Swoosh graphic on the shoe’s inner half, there is a small backwards embroidered style towards the heel. This works with a vertical Swoosh-and-text hit on the tongue plus a Nike spellout on the heel to complete the top half’s blend of branded motifs. Down below, the midsole’s black embossed “Air” graphic is partially covered with a white sketch that shows the anatomy and placement of the heel’s embedded Air cushioning unit. Black outsoles complete the look.

The Nike Air Force 1 “Sketch” in black is priced at €110 EUR (approximately $118 USD), and will release at retailers like Overkill on April 1.
