Rosalía returns with a gift to her fans during these trying times, introducing her latest heartbreak ballad in “Dolerme” or “Hurt Me.”

“Dolerme” follows her two-track 2019 EP Fucking Money Man” and her last full-length project from 2018 in El Mal Querer. The new offering finds Rosalía gracefully searching for balance between her traditional Flamenco roots with a modern, pop-infused vibe. A simple acoustic backing picks up pace thanks to some simple, vintage programmed drums. The vocals feature faint auto-tune with echoing layers as she sings in Spanish, “I don’t know why it doesn’t want to hurt me/ I accelerate to see if I can crash/ I want you to see it and don’t think about stopping me/ so you show that you’ve been able to forget me.”

Rosalía also took to Twitter to update her fans with a message of solidarity during the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) quarantines happening throughout the world, writing, “Many of us are in quarantine and not leaving our homes. I was in quarantine and I lost a bit of time because I decided that I was not going to think about it too much and that instead I was going to put my energy and my heart into doing something for others in my own way. I know what I do as an artist may seem expendable, for some it will be, but for me to be able to make music is good for my mental health. This song is called “Dolerme” and I hope it makes you feel a little better than I did when I made it. Please take care of yourself and take care of everyone you have around, with all my love.”

The album artwork even exudes a heartbreaking quality too, with a certain Piccaso Sleeper Near the Shutters aesthetic in all blue. The GRAMMY Award-winner returned to her signature Flamenco style for January’s “Juro Qué” music video. The Catalan singer-songwriter was recently holed up in the studio with frequent Travis Scott-collaborator Mike Dean after appearing on the JACKBOYS compilation, with a cryptic caption reading “7/3/20,” so mark your calendars for July 3.
