Nick Hakim returns with his new single “QADIR” and the announcement that his next full length project, WILL THIS MAKE ME GOOD, will release May 15 via ATO Records. The track serves as an homage to a late friend and to remind his listeners that it’s important to continually check in on those who truly matter. The album follows his critically-acclaimed 2017 debut Green Twins. The LP promises 12 new tracks, each reassessing what’s truly important amidst all of the madness in the world. Even the album cover paints a vivid picture of recovery, friendship and mental health awareness with a pill bottle emptied onto emotive portraits of Hakim.

“If I really sink into a recording, I don’t want it to end,” Hakim says. “['QADIR'] is repetitive and hypnotizing, like a trance – that’s intentional. The song is my ode to him. It’s my attempt to relate to how he must have been feeling,” Hakim shared about his recent musical output in a press statement. “I feel the people simmering, on our way to the boiling point. There’s a lot of madness going on around us and this world can feel so cold. It can get hard to remember what makes it worth it. The people around me and the music I love helps.”

“QADIR” clocks in at just under eight minutes. He sings, Oh, we have fallen, as a whole/ And we’re sinking, down a hole/ Without thinking, about our loved ones/ Who might be shrinking, into a sunken space.” Recently, the artist contributed to Anderson .Paak‘s “Headlow”, worked with Sporting Life on “Approach” and Onyx Collective for “My Funny Valentine.”

“For a while, I couldn’t write. I worked on new music but couldn’t find the right words. But that time was just a build-up to the three months of expression that led to this album,” he continued. “I hope this music will raise awareness about where we are right now. About how we are living on this planet. About how we treat our neighbors. About community. About depression.”

Watch Hakim’s “QADIR” above and stay tuned for his new record, WILL THIS MAKE ME GOOD, set to release May 15 via ATO Records.
