Casio Celebrates Bruce Lee's 80th Birthday With Special Edition G-SHOCK
As part of G-SHOCK’s high-end MR-G line.
The luxury arm of Casio’s G-SHOCK line, Mr-G reveals the MRG-G2000BL-9A, where BL stands for the legendary martial artist and action film star Bruce Lee, who would be celebrating his 80th birthday this year.
Firstly and most notably, the black and yellow color scheme used for the case and band is an obvious nod to the iconic tracksuit worn by Lee in the posthumously released film, Game of Death. What’s more is that the colors of yellow and red, which appear in the emblem of Jeet Kune Do, the martial arts philosophy founded by Lee, are also used for the indices, the MR-G logo and seconds hand.
Technically speaking, this updated MR-G features a Dura Soft Fluoro-Rubber band, which brings both high durability and a soft feel on the wrist, as well as a sapphire glass crystal that provides outstanding scratch resistance. Additionally, the MRG-G2000BL-9A also has a sleek bezel that is coated with diamond-like carbon to increase abrasion resistance; a titanium case and bezel; a time adjustment system capable of obtaining data via Bluetooth®; and a solar power charging system.
Finally, the special-edition watch includes an engraved bezel that reads “Using no way as a way, having no limitation as limitation,” and a dial that’s decorated with Bruce Lee’s signature, using the Chinese character “龍,” or dragon, Lee’s nickname.
Limited to just 300 units, the MRG-G2000BL-9A will retail for $4,000 USD and will be available for purchase in April at select jewelers and the G-SHOCK SoHo store.
