John Mayer Joins HODINKEE for Limited Edition G-SHOCK 6900

HODINKEE has just fully revealed its latest collaboration with its long-time friend John Mayer. Surprisingly, this new release does not arrive as a mechanical watch but instead as the field-tested Casio G-SHOCK 6900. Throwing it all the way back to the ’80s, the entire watch is treated with a colorway inspired by one of Mayer’s earliest introductions to the CASIO name when growing up in Fairfield, CT — the Casiotone SK-5 sampling keyboard.
As Mayer puts it: “When Casio approached me about the possibility of working together on a G-SHOCK, it actually timed out really well. I had already been pretty deep into wearing the ‘Mudmaster’ models, and something felt cosmically right about a G-SHOCK being the first watch collab I’ve ever done. I also love the price point. I’m not sure people would have expected a $180 watch with my name on it, but I think it’s really playful and inviting.”
The G-SHOCK 6900 has been dressed with hits of teal and aged-yellow across its slate-gray resin case and strap. When held in comparison next to the Casiotone SK-5, the time warp becomes apparent as the 1995 G-SHOCK model takes on the guise of the ’80s electronic instrument. Making sure this watch lasts well into the years is CASIO‘s patented water/shock-resistant technology. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, date, stopwatch, countdown timer, 24-hour time, and alarm.
Those interested in picking one up can head over to HODINKEE’s online shop on December 8, 11:00 a.m. EST where it will retail for $180 USD.
