'Coming 2 America' Trailer Sees King Akeem and Semmi Return to New York
Premiering March 2021.
Amazon Studios has released the official trailer of the highly-anticipated sequel, Coming 2 America.
The two-minute visual starts with a sick King Father Jaffe Joffer (James Earl Jones) telling his son King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) that although he’s ready to rule Zamunda, the royal throne must be passed on to a male heir. Akeem is informed that he has a son that must be found, so the King and his No. 2 Semmi (Arsenio Hall) — who first objects to leaving — hop on the jet and return to New York City.
Both familiar and fresh faces are then introduced with brief clips, including Jermaine Fowler as Akeem’s son Lavelle, Leslie Jones as Lavelle’s mother, Tracy Morgan as Lavelle’s uncle, Shari Headley as Akeem’s wife Lisa, Teyana Taylor as General Izzi’s henchwoman and Wesley Snipes as General Izzi, the older brother of Iman who was betrothed as Akeem’s wife in the 1988 original. The trailer also sees the return of Murphy and Hall’s several other characters such as barbershop owner and barber Clarence and Morris, Reverend Brown and Sexual Chocolate singer Randy Watson.
