Unboxing: PUMA and Porsche Pay Homage to the Iconic 911 Turbo With New Collaborative Collection
A closer look at three of the line’s eight sneakers.
Porsche and PUMA continue their longstanding partnership with a new limited-edition lineup of sneakers. The series of eight styles is inspired by the iconic Porsche 911 Turbo, with each of the shoes mimicking a specific iteration of the car model, dating back to the car’s debut in the mid-’70s. The collection adopts elements of the 911 Turbo, like period-specific paint colors, its iconic rear wing, lightbars, interiors and body lines. These are applied to two of PUMA’s classic silhouettes: the Future Rider and Speedcat. For our latest unboxing video, HYPEBEAST got its hands on three of our favorite styles from the collection.
The Type 930 3.3 L Future Rider harkens back to the OG Porsche 911 Turbo, the Porsche 930, which was the fastest production car available in Germany when it was introduced in 1975. This sneaker pays tribute to the 930’s successor, the 1977 Porsche 930 3.3L, which raised the bar for the model with a 3.3 liter flat-six engine. This comes through on the “Type 930 3.3 L” Future Rider in its deep crimson upper in textile, leather and suede with black detailing in the corrugated Federbein outsole, leather Formstrip and TPU heel stabilizer.
The “Type 964” Future Rider plays with vintage-inspired car colors, recalling one of the 911 Turbo’s most enduring and influential generations and one of the most popular hues from the period: Mint Green. The “Type 964 Future Rider” features a white textile upper, set off with a “Mint Green” leather Formstrip and suede overlays across the toe tip and heel counter. The red tag is another subtle nod to the Type 964 911 Turbo, which was the first generation of the sportscar to debut red brake calipers.
The collection’s inspiration leads into the present day, seen on the “Type 992” Speedcat, which was inspired by the most recent 911 Turbo, introduced earlier this year. The “Type 992” Speedcat plays on the car’s sculptural, “Night Blue Metallic” body with a luxe leather upper, motorsport-inspired stitched detailing, tonal T-toe overlays and a white outsole which extends into a rounded driver’s heel.
