New Balance's Classic 550 Basketball Sneaker Is Coming Back
The retro silhouette returns in two sporty shades.
After emerging as a collaboration in October, New Balance‘s chunky BB550 is set to see general release next month. The weighty silhouette is a low-top basketball style first seen on the hardwoods, but its retro cool stylings and appealingly understated colorways make it a natural fit for contemporary styling.
Offered in two primary color makeups, the BB550 is making the most of its versatile white leather upper by accenting key areas with splashes of blue or red. Updated stability and cushioning ensure that the old school silhouette is easy to wear all day long, with its appreciably understated palette balancing versatility with statement appeal.
Each design realizes blue or red hits atop a black outsole and white midsole, lending additional contrast to the perforated white upper and laces. The “N” branding, sockliner, tongue and logo on the heel all feature matching hues. “550” text graces the bottom-most eyelets in glossy 3D text that matches the “N.”
Look for the new 550 models to hit New Balance Japan’s site on December 1 for ¥14,300 JPY (approximately $135 USD). Expect a Western release to follow shortly.
New Balance has stayed buys with plenty of collaborative drops recently, including ones with Franck Muller, J. Crew and a three-way effort with Staple and atmos.
