The first trailer for The 355, an upcoming action-adventure spy thriller, has been released. The film will star Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, and Fan Bingbing in leading roles, and is being created by the studio behind the 2016 film Jason Bourne.
The 355 follows a CIA agent (played by Chastain) who must assemble an international team of secret agents to prevent the development of a new weapon. The team is formed of agents from Germany (Kruger), Colombia (Cruz), and the U.K. (Nyong’o, offering a fairly questionable British accent). Bingbing will play one of the film’s antagonists.
The picture was developed in 2018 at the Cannes Film Festival, when Chastain reportedly floated the idea of a female-led equivalent to the Bourne Identity franchise. It is distinct from the widely-discussed spy thriller concept that circulated on Twitter in 2017, which Nyong’o and Rihanna showed interest in at the time.
The 355 is currently slated for a U.S. release on January 15 2021, though the cinema industry is going through a period of unprecedented turbulence as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, many of the most hotly-anticipated upcoming films (including the next James Bond instalment and the Dune reboot) have had their release dates endlessly postponed.
