Jimmy Edgar Collaborates With Danny Brown and SOPHIE for Two New Songs
SOPHIE experiments on “METAL” while Danny brings his energy to “GET UP.”
Detroit producer and J-E-T-S member Jimmy Edgar returned yesterday with two new songs as part of his latest double A-side single. The experimental offerings include “GET UP” with fellow Michigander Danny Brown and “METAL” with hyperkinetic-pop champion SOPHIE. Both serve as a good reminder of just how versatile Edgar’s production chops are — and the 6-minute single is a whole lot of fun to listen to.
On “GET UP,” Danny Brown brings memories of OutKast’s “Git Up, Git Out” — just over instrumentation that brings you into a chaotic, industrial future. For “METAL,” SOPHIE and Jimmy showcase their chemistry, throwing any semblance of genres out the window with glitches, high-pitched synths and an ominous crescendo. “SOPHIE and I met at Fabric in London in the 2010s and since then we have performed live together as well as worked together with artists such as Charli XCX and Vince Staples,” Edgar said in a recent press release. “‘METAL’ is reflective of our love for designer sounds finely sculpted on boutique computer equipment.”
Back in May, Edgar connected with Hudson Mohawke for “BENT”. Edgar also connected with Machinedrum for their December 2019 EP ZAPS.
