adidas’ Tischtennis Sneaker Makes a Triumphant Return

A reworked table tennis shoe, deep from the brand’s archives.

During the 1970s, adidas catered for the majority of indoor sports that were played across Europe at the time. From squash and netball, to football and court shoes, the German label had it covered. While a number of these classic silhouettes have been given modern makeovers in recent years, there’s one shoe that’s remained virtually untouched: the Tischtennis sneaker.

Initially released in the late seventies, the Tischtennis sneaker was seen as table tennis’ answer to tennis’ Stan Smith. Ultra-light and breathable, each shoe was made using a combination of mesh and suede, all sat upon a gum rubber outsole for a grippy finish.

Now for 2020, the sneaker returns in two colorways — “Cloud” white and “Core” black — with the same DNA as its original, along with a classic lace closure and a suede toe-box to finish.

Available now from the adidas webstore, the Tischtennis sneakers retail at £69.95 (approximately $90 USD).

In other news, Dover Street Market has restocked its monochromatic adidas Stan Smith collaborations.
