'Legends of Runeterra' Card Game Announces Open Beta Date
From the creators of ‘League of Legends.’
Riot Games has just announced the open beta date for its League of Legends-based digital card game, Legends of Runeterra.
The previously invite-only closed beta is now getting a full open beta release for the general public, which will commence January 24. Along with the open beta comes a whole range of new features as well. First up is ranked mode, similar to the system in League of Legends, where players will compete against others and climb the ranks from Iron all the way to Master. Whatever rank you achieve will follow you through the entire beta season until the official launch.
Another new feature is your friends list, which will be directly imported from League of Legends, and a new mode will allow you to directly challenge anyone on your friends list. To prevent pay-to-win mechanics, Legends of Runeterra has also eliminated the need to pay for randomized card packs, instead of making them attainable in-game. Instead, the developers say that they’ll be doubling down on cosmetic items instead, where players can choose to buy certain customization items depending on what they want, while not affecting gameplay mechanics. To keep the game interesting, Riot Games will also be releasing new cards over the next 12 months. Most important of all, however, the company has confirmed that there won’t be any more resets, meaning everything you acquire or buy during the open beta period will carry over to the official launch.
Legends of Runeterra is now open for pre-registration. Head over to the game’s website to register now.
Elsewhere in gaming, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has pledged all proceeds from its upcoming DLC towards the Australian bushfire relief.
The PC Open Beta starts January 24 and we’re letting you all in! Ranked, friends list and friend challenge, guardians and boards, and no more resets.
