Tesla’s Model 3 Interior Is Now 100% Leather-Free
For all the vegans out there.
Automotive company Tesla is pushing the boundaries yet again, this time by announcing its Model 3 interior is now 100% leather-free.
The news was shared over the weekend via Tesla’s social media accounts and fulfils a promise made by CEO Elon Musk at this year’s annual shareholder meeting. The automotive giant has been trying to close in on leather-free interiors for a couple of years now, with one major item in question being the steering wheel. At the meeting Musk shared, “I believe we were close to having a non-heated steering wheel, that’s not leather. There are some challenges when we heat the non-leather material and also how well it wears over time.” The steering wheel cover has been upgraded to “Tesla Synthetic Material” from its earlier cowhide version.
Tesla is making the move to making its cars vegan following pressures from entities such as PETA. Musk also shared the Model Y and Model 3 would be vegan by 2020.
