French running shoe company HOKA ONE ONE has teamed up with outdoor performance apparel maker XTERRA to create a unisex Torrent sneaker designed for trail runners to endure the harshest of conditions.
Offered in two colorways — a green camo upper paired with a vibrant yellow sole or a grey camo upper coupled with a bright red sole — the main strength of the sneaker is the amount of research and tech packed into it. The trail runner was designed and built in collaboration with professional athletes in the sport, and has managed to balance cushioning and comfort with agility — two normally contradictory traits.
Moving onto the details, the upper is constructed with open engineered mesh which provides comfort, support, and breathability whilst having quick-drying properties. This mesh is then complemented by protective overlays around the forefoot and toebox, designed to protect against trail debris. This high-tech upper rests on a PROFLY midsole that provides plenty of cushioning as well as a propulsive toe-off. The outsole is then covered in zones of high-abrasion rubber for increased durability, and multidirectional lugs to optimize your grip no matter the terrain.
Elsewhere in sneakers, Vans has tapped Baker Skateboards for a graphic-heavy capsule.
