Fast-rising Queens rapper Lil Tecca doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. After releasing his breakout single “Ransom” earlier this year, the 16-year-old artist later rode the success of the cut with a Juice WRLD-assisted remix, aptly landing himself a top-five spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Now the rising star has returned with his debut project, We Love You Tecca.

In a recent interview with Billboard, the rapper states that “the way things are going keep catching my surprise. Every day could be different, so I’m just going with the flow right now.” In many senses, Tecca has re-emphasized a new era of SoundCloud rappers, whereby his last four singles have managed to top the platform’s trending charts, further landing him a deal with Republic Records.

Flexing his prowess over the 17-track project, Tecca’s latest offering only enlists one feature, showcasing his talent for crafting a project that holistically pits him at its center. Sonically, Tecca’s approach to hip-hop offers a weirdly idiosyncratic mash-up of much of the genres current trends — his flow resembles that of Young Thug’s various psychedelically-tinged YSL-signees, while much of the instrumentals take on a harder sound found in much of his fellow New York artists’ discographies. Regardless of the case, Lil Tecca’s first project is nothing short of an achievement for the young up-and-comer.
