Virgil Abloh Talks to Benji B About Working With Kanye West, Skate Culture and the UK Grime Scene
A cut from their recent BBC Radio 1 show.
Last month Virgil Abloh found some time in his busy schedule to sit down with Benji B for the British DJ BBC Radio 1 show, the radio network recently posted a video of the interview cut from the show. Kicking things off Virgil revealed his love for radio and music selectors which led him to meet Benji.
Moving on the multi-disciplinary Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton touched on growing up in Chicago and what it’s like working with Kanye West. Keeping a focus on music, Virgil touched on the club scene in New York and his view of how the UK Grime scene has exploded over the last few years. Finally,
Virgil offered some insight into creative expression noting self-doubt as simply a “myth.” “When it comes to self-expression, especially in a creative atmosphere, those things that hold you back from sort of executing your dream — are myth. It took me that period to question myself and ask, ‘Am I going to believe the myth that I can’t be a designer, on the highest level?’”
