HBO Shares Teaser Trailer and Premiere Date for Season Five of 'Ballers'
Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as retired NFL superstar Spencer Strasmore.
Dwayne Johnson isn’t one for slowing down — with three major feature films slated for the next year (Hobbs & Shaw, Jumani: The Next Level, and Disney’s Jungle Cruise), it seems the former WWE-star is as hungry as ever for screentime. So is the case with HBO’s Ballers. After renewing its popular TV series for a new season last fall, HBO has released the teaser trailer for the upcoming fifth season. Starring Johnson as retired NFL player Spencer Strasmore, the series revolves around the character’s role as a financial manager for other successful athletes. The new teaser is presented in monologue fashion, with Strasmore sharing the gritty side of his lifestyle:
“People think you’re born with it. But that’s not how it works. It all started with my pops. He taught me how to play the game. I didn’t choose football. Football chose me…I thought I’d always be known as a player. But identity is a funny thing. Just when you think you’ve defined yourself, there’s another chapter.”
Continuing forward, Strasmore takes a call from “Boss Man,” as he calls him, who asks where he is, with Johnson’s character aptly replying “you know when football calls, I gotta answer.” On top of the teaser, HBO also revealed that the sports comedy-meets-drama will return on August 25, right in the midst of the NFL preseason.
