In preparation for The Hour Glass’ 40th anniversary, Urwerk is set to release a special limited-edition UR-105 watch. Taking some of the best design cues from Urwerk’s repertoire — the domed glass from the UR-103, the oversized crown from the UR-200, and acid-green SuperLuminova from the UR-105 Kryptonite — this limited watch features a steampunk-esque, sandblasted bronze 39.5mm case.
Telling the time is spectacle to watch as three “satellite” hour discs orbit around the center of the watch, sweeping across the front of the watch where a minute track is present. On the back are two pneumatic turbines that are not only enjoyable to witness as they spin, but help with the winding of the mainspring. Placed next to the turbines is a switch, which when in various positions, prevent or slow down the turbines — RED is for reduced winding in situations when the wearer will be most active (prevents the over stressing of the mainspring), while STOP is for when you wish to wind the watch purely using the crown. The The Hour Glass x Urwerk UR-105 also contains a seconds wheel and a power reserve indicator.
There is currently no pricing available, but those interested can register for a chance to purchase the watch over at thehourglass.com. Collectors should act fast as only three examples will be made.
