Nike's All-New Metcon 5 Improves on "The Perfect Shoe"
Tested by athletes for over 9,000 hours.
Nike has unveiled the Metcon 5 sneaker, a new and improved take on the fitness-focused silhouettes. The Metcon 4 was dubbed by many Nike athletes as “the perfect shoe” and now, Nike has turned to some of its leading sports stars to help produce the boundary-pushing Metcon 5.
The Nike Metcon 5 was co-developed by athletes including three-time “Fittest Man on Earth,” Mat Fraser, and six-time CrossFit Games athlete Lauren Fisher. All the athletes involved put the Metcon 5 through over 9,000 hours of testing to ensure it’s upgraded grip, traction and abrasion-resistance were up to the standards of today’s next-level sportsmen and women.
As a result, the Metcon 5 is Nike’s most stable and durable iteration to date. New features include an improved haptic chain-link patterned upper for enhanced rope climb capabilities, a highly cushioned tongue for more support and lockdown and a wider heel for improved stability during heavy squats, snatches, cleans and shoulder-to-overhead movements.
Nike also introduces a new Hyperlift feature, which gives the Metcon 5 an eight-millimeter insert for men and six-millimeter insert for women to, once again, further increase stability. The increased offset allows for greater heel-to-ground contact and balance, which is crucial for heavy lifts.
Rounding off the new features is a softer dual-density midsole which sees more flexibility in the forefoot and more protection all around from high impacts. Pairs will release via NikePlus and to NTC Pro Members on June 27 and will see a worldwide release on Nike.com on July 8. Take a look at the Nike Metcon 5 in the gallery above.
