Netflix has released the teaser trailer for its upcoming Japanese original TV series entitled, The Naked Director, which centers around controversial filmmaker Tour Muranishi and his quest to revolutionize Japan’s adult film industry.
Centering around Muranishi’s career, the new show will focus on Japan’s adult industry during the country’s economic boom throughout the 1980s. Starring Takayuki Yamada — known for Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and The Devil’s Path — the series is based on Nobuhiro Motohashi’s book of reportage surrounding Muranishi’s life and career. Yamada will play the notorious seven-time convicted felon and self-described “king of porn,” with Masahara Take directing the 10-part series. Netflix has shared a full summary release below:
The 10 episode series will chronicle his rise to fame, filled with big ambitions as well as spectacular setbacks in his unflinching attempt to turn Japan’s porn industry on its head. It will also be a portrait of an ensemble of characters who experience success and failure in Japan’s “bubble” era of the 1980s, a time that gave rise to unprecedented splendor and excess.
Late last year, Yamada shared that “for years people have been asking me if I’d like to direct, but my reply was always ‘only if I find the right project,” continuing on by saying “now I’ve found a nicer answer: ‘Yamada will be a porn director’.” As evidenced by the teaser trailer, The Naked Director will include various aspects of Japan’s notorious adult film industry.
