Here Are the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019
Celebrating the finest culinary locations.

Earlier this week, some of the world’s best chefs and food icons took to Singapore for a ceremony honoring the top 50 restaurants of 2019. Topping this year’s list is Mauro Colagreco’s Mirazur, located in the French Riveria. Debuting on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list back in 2002, Mirazur has made its way up the list over the years with its views of the Cote D’Azur along the border with Italy, backyard farm produce and a deliciously simple salted beetroot with caviar cream dish.
Behind is René Redzepi’s revamped Noma in second place, followed by Atxondo, Spain’s Asador Etxebarri, Gaggan of Bangkok with its emoji menu and Copenhagen’s Geranium. With an overhaul to the rules of the awards to encourage diversity and a gender balance amongst its voting body, this year’s list saw some bright new entries. More specifically, the 2019 World’s 50 Best Restaurants List featured the addition of a few new Latin American restaurants along with the first Colombian location to make the roundup. Hong Kong’s The Chairman also made it way in as the only restaurant serving Chinese cuisine on the list.
Moving on to the individual awards, this year’s Icon Award was given to José Andrés of the ThinkFoodGroup. Aside from running a supply chain for Spanish cuisine products and looking over 30 restaurants, Andrés helped found the non-profit World Central Kitchen. Other notable honors delivered at the ceremony include the Art of Hospitality Award which went to Tokyo’s Den, Daniela Soto-Innes of Cosme took home the Best Female Chef Award and Jessica Préalpat of Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée earned the Best Pastry Chef Award. Finally, Alain Passard was awarded the Chefs’ Choice Award for his innovations in plant-based gastronomy long before it was the norm and Schloss Schauenstein of Fürstenau, Switzerland accepting the Sustainable Restaurant Award.
