Man of the moment Jeff Goldblum returns to the silver screen in Rick Alverson’s fifth feature film, The Mountain. Premiered at the 75th Venice International Film Festival, the surreal movie is loosely based on the American neurologist Walter Freeman’s descent from grace after the procedure he developed, the lobotomy, came under scrutiny.

Placed against the 1950’s “golden age” of American male supremacy, a humble young photographer (Tye Sheridan) joins a celebrated lobotomist (Jeff Goldblum) on a tour to assist the doctor’s recently exposed procedure. As he frequently relates to the asylum’s patients, he becomes infatuated with a young woman and lost in the expanding New Age movement of the west.
