adidas Skateboarding & TRANSworld Reveal Plans for New Daewon Song Documentary
‘DAEWON’ is scheduled to debut later this month.
In honor of one of skating culture’s most revered icons, adidas Skateboarding and Transworld Skateboarding are announcing plans to release a new full-length documentary about legendary skateboarder Daewon Song. Known as DAEWON, the film was put together by director Joseph Pease and is billed as a exploration of the career, legacy and personal journey of Daewon Song, as well as a look at the impact he had on other influential figures in his craft.
“Daewon left our universe a long time ago and floats around in his own,” adidas Skateboarding’s Global Sports Marketing Director Jascha Muller shares via an official press statement. “adidas and Transworld came together on the creation of this film not only to honor Daewon but for skateboarding’s collective memory and for all generations to come.”
“It was an absolute honor for Daewon to let us tell his story,” adds DAEWON Director Joseph Pease, reflecting on his time at the helm of DAEWON. “Skateboarding would not be the same without him.”
DAEWON is scheduled to premiere at an event in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 12, and will see a global digital release the following Friday on May 17. Daewon’s Picnic, a “pro invitational contest” centered around some of Daewon Song’s signature picnic table-skating styles and tricks, will also be held on Sunday, May 12 to commemorate the documentary’s debut; for that competition, a curated selection of pro skaters will hit Lockwood Elementary School.
