Bay Area Singer Derek King Debuts New 'More Vibes' Video & Single "Play"
Do not sleep on this West Coast hitmaker.
In recent stripes, Bay Area singer-songwriter Derek King has cut his teeth and earned his stripes as one his region’s go-to hook masters and most talented vocalists, helping popular artists like Sage the Gemini, SOB x RBE, Nef the Pharaoh, Iamsu! and several others cook up hits. Now, moving beyond simply being one of the Bay’s ubiquitous chorus-crooners and guest-collaborators, King serves up the lead single in support of his forthcoming full-length project More Vibes, “Play.” Notably, the T-Kelley-produced “Play” receives it debut courtesy of a Adrian Per-directed vignette.
“‘Play’ came about from me being in the studio and talking to my producer on how we can re-shake up the world with another follow-up after my latest single ‘Tetris,’” Derek King explains to us, breaking down the origins of “Play.” “We wanted to bring the same type of vibe but in a different way, so we came up with flipping ‘I Need a Girl Part 2.’ My producer T Kelley did the beat and sent it over, and as soon as I heard the beat I had that melody in my head so I put it down. I’m happy the way it came out! More Vibes and the More Vibes tour coming soon!”

Made up of nine new tracks, More Vibes is scheduled to see release on April 26; it only features one outside contribution, making it a true display and showcase of its creator’s skills as a songwriter and solo act.
