Vampire Weekend Joined by Jerry Seinfeld for Jonah Hill-Directed "Sunflower" Video

One week after debuting “Big Blue” and the Steve Lacy-assisted “Sunflower,” Vampire Weekend are back with the official video for the latter track. Notably, the “Sunflower” clip was shot by Jonah Hill and stars Jerry Seinfeld, who joins Vampire Weekend architect Ezra Koenig at New York City’s Zabars and Barney Greengrass markets for the video shoot.

“He [Steve Lacy] randomly tweeted at me a few years ago saying we should collaborate. He was right,” Ezra Koenig shared on Instagram a few days ago. “‘Sunflower’ is the first song ever released by VW with a feature and I’m glad it’s Steve. He told me the first song he ever learned on guitar was A-Punk which is hilarious cuz he is now way better at guitar than me. Can’t wait for you to hear his other contributions to FOTB.”

“On our first album, most of the songs were written in college, and it had a very youthful vibe,” Koenig revealed during a previously-interview with Rolling Stone, explaining the themes and origins of Father of the Bride. “On the second and third records, the wide-eyed enthusiasm dimmed considerably. You see more of the world, and you’re more and more disheartened. But that trajectory can’t go on forever. After you make the black-and-white album cover with the songs about death, you can’t go deeper. This is the life-goes-on record.”
