Following the debut of Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios has released a new trailer for Avengers: Endgame, just a few weeks ahead of its premiere. Not only does it include new scenes from the movie, but it also teases the bookend of several standalone films within the MCU, including Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America.

The additional visuals in the trailer hark back to several scenes shown in the original Endgame trailer, adding context to moments we have already seen and are currently speculating over. Couple that with the set pictures that leaked earlier last year, and there’s a serviceable amount of information on what we can expect to see in the final Avengers installment.

SPOILERS ARE BELOW:

Tony Stark and Nebula Make It Back to Earth

Tony Stark, stranded in space, narrating the trailer, and leaving a message through his helmet to Pepper Potts has been the first bit of footage we’ve seen in both trailers. At first, we assumed he was alone until we saw Nebula in a scene on the ship Tony is on, helping him build something out of scraps. Those visuals hark back to Iron Man when Tony built his first piece of armor, only this time he mentions that moment alongside a flashback in the trailer. It’s revealed later in the trailer that he and Nebula succeed in making it back to Earth, as they’re both seen walking in The Avengers‘ facility alongside several other team members, who are now decked out in matching white suits (more on that later).

Hawkeye’s Daughter Was Snapped

After the flashback scene of Iron Man and Captain America in their first films, which both showcase when they first became heroes, we see Clint Barton (Hawkeye) training his daughter in archery. The previous trailer showcased Black Widow finding Clint in a new outfit (inspired by his comic book alias Ronin) and hairstyle, appearing negatively affected by the apocalyptic state of the world.

Many have speculated that his family (introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron) perished from Thanos‘ Infinity Glove-powered snap. The new trailer suggests that his daughter may have been one of half of the universe’s lifeforms to be eliminated. Her skills in archery also suggest the mantle of Hawkeye may be passed down to her in the future, similar to the character Kate Bishop. Although they’re not related in the comics or even the same character, the film may rewrite the character to follow Kate’s footsteps a bit more.

The post-credits of Infinity War showed Earth in chaos during the midst of the snap. It appears the movie takes place sometime after, as the previous Superbowl spot showcased an empty sports stadium, an ominous overcast, numerous abandoned ships, and Captain America attending a group therapy session for spared individuals coping with the tragic event. This new trailer doubles down on the state of Earth following Thanos’ snap, featuring Scott Lang (Ant-Man)–who avoided elimination via the Quantum Realm–viewing numerous flyers of missing people with horror and confusion.

These visuals look partly inspired by the horror film 28 Days Later, where the main protagonist wakes up from a coma to find an abandoned metropolis that’s succumbed to an infestation of the undead. Although Endgame looks to be all sorts of science fiction-based (inspired by Johnathan Hickman’s Avengers stories), it does appear the film will carve out time in its 3-hour runtime to address the current status quo of the planet.

The Avengers Are Going to Time Travel

We also hear narration in this trailer, this time from The Winter Soldier‘s Peggy Carter, where she states “The world has changed, and none of us can go back. All we can do is our best, and sometimes, the best that we can do is to start over.” A bit ahead, we see Captain America visually unable to accept the world for the way it is now, which is backed by him narrating “I keep telling everyone to move on, but not us.” Lastly, we see The Avengers, consisting of characters like Iron Man, Nebula, Cap, Thor, War Machine, Rocket, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Bruce Banner and Ant-Man sporting the aforementioned white suits and strutting off like astronauts preparing to takeoff.

This suggests that The Avengers’ next course of action is to travel back in time and undo Thanos’ snap, of which many speculate will be possible due to Ant-Man and his invulnerability to the snap while he was trapped in the Quantum Realm during the post-credit scene of Ant-man and The Wasp. With the likes of Banner and Stark on their side, it’s highly possible the two can figure out a way to utilize the energy of the Quantum Realm to their advantage.

This may be where the new outfits, or the leaked set images depicting Stark, Cap and Ant-Man wearing matching wrist-wear, can come into play. They may be related to how these characters can jump throughout the timeline, where we’re sure their course of action will alter already-established events in the MCU pre-Infinity War after everything is resolved in Endgame.

It may be also worth noting that Captain Marvel’s power derives from the Tesseract, which contains the Space Stone. It’s suggested that its power can allow for interdimensional travel, which can also aid The Avengers in moving freely through time.

The final scene we see is of Thor and Captain Marvel, two of the strongest beings in the MCU (according to Kevin Feige). Following the recent release of Captain Marvel and her post-credit scene, we see that she will meet The Avengers and explain her history with Nick Fury and the beeper she entrusted him with, as well as flex her unmoving attitude towards a god. She may even have some off-planet information that can help the greater cause. Although many have speculated that she possesses the strength to swoop in and defeat Thanos singlehandedly, this footage suggests it will take the combined effort of her and Thor to deal a definitive blow.

Although we’ve seen Thor showcases his ability to fulfill the task on his own, we’ve also seen him fail to kill the Mad Titan when the time came. Now that Thanos knows of Thor’s hammer and its capabilities, it may take another wild card to catch him off guard once again. That’s where Captain Marvel can come in.

Avengers: Endgame premieres in theaters April 26.
