Created in the essence of a three-pronged propellor, SPF:archictects has completed its 4-year project of the Orum Residence in Los Angeles. The Bel Air home floats atop the hillside, encased in glass for sprawling views of the city.

Completed this month, the Orum Residence stands at 18,800 square feet across three floors — two above ground and one located below the surface of the hill. In order to fulfill the client’s request for a luxury pad suitable for entertaining and living purposes, the architecture firm focused on balancing the scale of the house with its surrounding scenery. This resulted in dividing the space into three winged-like sections that span out from a glass and steel staircase, which acts as the convergence point. From there, the ground floor was designed as the main communal area while the top floor was reserved for more private chambers.

Moving outdoors, standout amenities include a kitchen, an LED-lit pool, two patios with fire pits and a garage which doubles as a spot for events. The basement contains additional lavish details including a home theatre, gym, spa, cedar sauna and 1,000-bottle wine room. It also serves as the entryway to “The Cube,” a 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom guesthouse complete with a kitchenette and its own garage. The accommodation was listed for a whopping $56 million USD, according to California Home + Design.

Elsewhere in the architecture sphere, Japanese architects FORM/Kouichi Kimura developed a concrete home constructed around the principle of tranquility.
