Acne Studios Celebrates Counter-Cultures for FW19
Bringing together disparate influences.
Swedish label Acne Studios returned to Paris Fashion Week to officially unveil its Fall/Winter 2019 collection, which drew influences from different counter-cultures. Discussing the collection, Acne Studios creative director Jonny Johansson explained that he “wanted to imagine our own counter-cultures which then morph together, with their own ways of living and surviving.”
To represent this effect, Johansson looked at different groups — including academics, anarchists, bohemians and off-grid pioneers — before mixing their styles, bringing together disparate ideas to create something new. Key themes in the collection include jersey tops with imperfect ribbing and images from the medical textbook Gray’s Anatomy, Cowhide coats that are partially left nature and partially over-dyed, and loose-fitting cashmere boucle cardigans.
In terms of accessories, Acne Studio’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection mixes functionality — such as multi-pocket body bags — with aesthetic jewelry such as brooches of flowers trapped in resin and spherical cutaway items. The stand-out footwear items include hiking boots with oversized soles and white rubber industrial boots.
