3.1 Phillip Lim Taps Japan's Moonstar for Bespoke Sneaker Collection
Harnessing the power of Kurume rubber.

3.1 Phillip Lim joins forces with Japan’s Moonstar for a selection of collaborative Fall/Winter 2019 sneaker silhouettes. Kicking off for Spring/Summer 2019, the collaboration continues into the next season, with a trio of monochrome, mostly-white canvas sneakers informing the first drop.
Moonstar, based in Kurume, enjoys international fame for the traditional techniques utilized to craft its vulcanized rubber outsoles. The process has been a long time in the making, constantly refined since the company’s founding in 1873 and initially used for tabi shoes before developing rubber for car tires and other necessities. 3.1 Phillip Lim’s collaborative sneakers utilize Moonstar’s weatherproof rubber lining as a base, covering the midsole and much of the upper with a sturdy, waterproof shell. Water resistant canvas completes the upper, executed in off-white tones with one sneaker boasting contrasting black panels.
The sneakers are out now on 3.1 Phillip Lim’s official site.
