Kanye West has never been afraid to explore his fears and genuine struggles through his music, and the team over at Wisecrack have put together an extensive video analysis of the consistent references to death throughout ‘Ye’s extensive discography. Building its foundation on 19th century Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard’s conceptual ideas of despair and mortality, the insightful clip examines a number of Kanye’s songs that are particularly preoccupied with the death of either loved ones or himself. “Roses” was written in the wake of his grandmother’s passing; “Power” was allegedly spurred on by his suicidal thoughts; and “Through the Wire” was inspired by a near-death experience in a car accident.
